Artist Statement

"Art is the existence of the intangible."

As both an art educator and practicing artist, I focus on the experimentation and mastery of a medium, tool, technique, and process to create a strong foundation capable of effectively expressing one's ideas. Before beginning the final product, an in depth exploration of one's creativity is conducted to realize the potential and limitations of a concept.

My interest in art stems from its therapeutic qualities that allow my perfectionist tendencies to subside and an instinctual freedom of expression to surface. Also, art serves as a universal language that I can turn to when confined by language barriers.

Majority of my work depicts abstracted representational, figurative and mundane subject matter. I am fascinated with the raw, nuanced, subtle beauty of the essence of life contained within people and objects.

I aim to provide the viewer with a plane to experience an emotional and physical response on an instinctual level triggered through aesthetically pleasing imagery alone. My work allows people to appreciate and become conscious of the wonders of everyday sensations often ignored. I want to free my audience and learners from the social expectation of understanding the intention and significance of all aspects of an artwork in order to appreciate it.

My artistic influences include Franz Kline and Vermeer. Franz Kline's work introduced me to a free form of art making that retained its aesthetic appeal and evokes a dynamic quality felt within one's body. Meanwhile Vermeer exposed me to artwork whose beauty lies in its subtleties and nuances.
